Behind Citizen A: The Story of a Passion for Craftsmanship and Design

I'm Marème Fall, and if you're here, it's because you too feel this almost instinctive connection with handmade objects. Those that bear the trace of the gesture, the raw material, the transmitted know-how. This connection is the beating heart of Citizen A.

Citizen A wasn't born in a flash. It was woven slowly, through travel, encounters, objects brought back from here and elsewhere, and silences too. It was built with a desire: to create bridges between craftsmanship and living spaces. Between the hands that create, and the places that welcome.

“From our hands to your home.”

Creating a studio at the crossroads of worlds

With Citizen A, I wanted to create a studio that speaks to those who love beautiful pieces, but not fixed things. A studio that thinks of objects as presences. A studio that respects the time of handmade work, the rhythm of artisans, and that believes that design can be gentle, accessible, and deeply rooted.

Each collection we offer is the result of sensitive, patient curation. I seek to create a dialogue between shapes, materials, and origins. Sometimes raw wood from a Senegalese village sits alongside sandstone expertly crafted by a designer. Sometimes a woven garland becomes the centerpiece of a living room or a hotel hallway.

What inspires me is the simplicity, the warmth, the elegance of objects that don't try to do too much. Afro-contemporary, for me, is not a fixed aesthetic. It's a breath of fresh air. It's the ability to honor our heritage while looking toward tomorrow.

.

I'm not trying to "modernize" craftsmanship. It's already modern, in its patience, its poetry, its intelligence. I'm trying to bring it to life differently, in places that need soul, in spaces that want to tell a different story.

What I hope to convey through Citizen A:

01

A sincere connection with the object

May each piece you choose connect you to a gesture, a story, a material. May it be more than an object: a presence.

02

Another look at craftsmanship

Far from clichés, I want to show that craftsmanship is powerful, contemporary, and useful in today's world.

03

A desire to live differently

Take the time to create a space that reflects your image. A place that soothes, inspires, and welcomes. Where you feel every detail has meaning.

Thank you for being here. For exploring, for being interested, for reading us.

Welcome to Citizen A.

With warmth,
